Parallel pumps, what they are and what are they for

The operating point of a circuit is measured according to the head and flow rate and is specified by the intersection of the plant’s characteristic curve with that of the pump. Generally the pumping systems are realized through the connection of several pumps to make the management more effective and reliable. The characteristic curve of the pumps can thus be traced back to the characteristic curve of the pumping system so as to obtain an equivalent characteristic curve. To guarantee a certain flow, more pumps can be connected with two different configurations: parallel pumps or pumps in series. But what are the main differences between the two types of pumps?

Differences between parallel pumps and series pumps

Two or more pumps in parallel come into operation when the capacity required for the system can not be achieved with a single pump. In this case the pumps must have in common the delivery manifold and the intake manifold, or catchment basin. If the pumps have the same prevalence also the operation becomes simpler. The connection of several pumps in the same system, both in series and in parallel, are important for the safeguard of each component, in terms of duration and operation. One or more pumps in series, on the other hand, come into operation when only one pump fails to provide necessary head. In this case the liquid passes through all the pumps.

Fourgroup water pumping systems

Our pumping systems for water can be fixed or variable and are perfect to be used both in the civil sector, ie in condominiums, hotels, etc., and in the industrial one. Our water lifting systems are characterized above all by their high level of silence, resistance, protection and reliability as well as reduced water consumption.
